For an estimated one in 10 Americans, there’s something about the dentist’s office — maybe it’s a negative past experience, the uncomfortable whirring of drills, or the fear of pain — that has them running in the opposite direction.

If fear of the dentist has been keeping you from having an important procedure done or preventing you from regular checkups, it doesn’t have to be that way.

At Bell Dental Group in Cincinnati, OH, your comfort is incredibly important to us. Whether you’re here for an exam or a more involved restorative procedure, our caring team will go above and beyond to minimize stress surrounding your visit!

Read on for some of the ways we do this. Then, if you’re ready to overcome your fear of the dentist, give us a call at 513-802-9440 to schedule an appointment.

Let Our Caring Staff Help You Relax

We know that walking into a dentist’s office can be overwhelming. We want to make sure you are as comfortable as possible during your visit, and we understand that your experience begins as soon as you get to our office.

When you first arrive, you’ll be greeted by our friendly and compassionate staff.. We’ll get you signed in, and then, feel free to grab a warm beverage or other refreshment from our reception area to help calm your nerves.

Once you are brought to one of our clean and comfortable exam rooms, we’d be happy to provide you with a soft neck pillow and a warm blanket. Before your procedure begins, we’ll talk you through the work we’ll do so you know what to expect. At Bell Dental Group, we prioritize thoughtful communication with our patients. If you have any questions at all, we encourage you to ask.

We have TVs with headphones in every care room, so you’re welcome to watch your favorite show or listen to some music while we work.

Because Dr. Chuck and Dr. Dave have extensive training across multiple dental disciplines, you can feel confident that you’ll receive excellent care in our office. But on top of that, we use state-of-the-art technology to ensure even greater precision and patient comfort.

When you’re at Bell Dental Group, we use drill-free air abrasion to get rid of tooth decay. There’s no uncomfortable vibration, pressure, or sound of a drill, which makes it a great option for children or patients who are afraid of getting a tooth filled.

In addition, our office can painlessly numb your mouth prior to treatment, thanks to our computer-assisted anesthesia delivery system!

Ease Tension With Dental Sedation

We also understand that sometimes it takes more than just comfort measures to put you at ease.

At Bell Dental Group, we offer two dental sedation options to help you have a stress-free dental procedure: nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

Sedation dentistry is sometimes referred to as “sleep dentistry,” although that term can be a bit misleading. With both these forms of dental sedation, you’ll be conscious during your appointment, but you’ll experience less discomfort and stress than if you were without them.

Here’s the difference:

  • Nitrous oxide is commonly referred to as “laughing gas.” That’s because it can make you feel a sense of relaxation or euphoria for the duration of your dental procedure. This is a fast-acting form of dental sedation. A doctor will place a small mask over your nose and ask you to take a few deep breaths. You’ll start feeling the effects of nitrous oxide almost immediately. And since it wears off quickly after we turn off the gas, you’ll feel “normal” again almost instantly.
  • Oral sedation is administered in the form of a pill that we prescribe for you and instruct you to take a certain amount of time before your procedure. The effects can vary from patient to patient and depending on the type of pill you are prescribed, but many people say it makes them feel drowsy or calm. You’ll likely have only a vague memory of the procedure after it’s over.

Though patients are usually fine to drive home after receiving nitrous oxide as part of their treatment, we ask that patients who undergo oral sedation have a family member or friend drive them both to and from their appointment.
